Iesolana - Chianti

Iesolana is a vast Tuscan estate,
with grain, grapes, and olives the principal crops. We’ve
recently revisited Iesolana and found it to be just fantastic.
It had been about 5 years since we last saw the place, and
its young, affable owners, who are in residence and add immeasurably
to the attractiveness of the place, have made some major upgrades
which render the place even more attractive. The location
is ideal, with really lovely views of the surrounding farmlands.
Bucine is the nearest village, about 5 kilometers distant,
with a train station for convenient daytrips to both Arezzo
and Florence. Siena is about a 40-minute drive.
Iesolana isn’t the sort of property
we usually offer. It is a multiple-unit estate where you will
definitely run into other guests more frequently than at any
of our other offerings. But we loved Iesolana and think you
will, too. It’s a step above virtually any similar property
we have ever seen in Tuscany in its price range. Its energetic
young owners have really gone out of their way to make each
accommodation as comfortable as possible. Moreover, each unit
has its own independent outdoor space assigned to it.
Portico, Legnaia, and Camino, the three units for 2 persons, are especially gracious, in contrast to so many 2-person units in Italy which are dark, dingy, and dinky. Most windows have screens (a real rarity in Italy), and satellite TV is available. Beds are perfect. Baths are brand-new. A laundry room is available. All units have a phone for both incoming and outgoing calls. There’s a wi-fi area around the estate office where you can obtain the password and pay for your online time at reasonable rates.
One of the nicest things about Iesolana is that it has a guests-only on-site restaurant for simple evening meals, as well as breakfast. Meals including breakfast can be taken on an ad-hoc basis, so that you do not need to commit to meals each and every day. It’s very flexible and quite reasonable.

Archi
Accommodates 4 — 2 Bedrooms
— 2 Baths
Spacious ground-floor accommodation ideal for a family or for two couples. Living/dining, large kitchen, plus two bedrooms, one matrimonial and one twin, and two full baths (shower only). Immediate access to the outside makes this one of Iesolana’s most appealing accommodations. In fact, Archi now gets probably our top recommendation at the estate.
Portico
Accommodates 2 — 1 Bedroom
— 1 Bath
Really delightful flat for two persons. Open-plan living/dining/kitchen, matrimonial bedroom, bath with shower. Excellent terrace for alfresco dining. Wonderful for a couple.
Legnaia
Accommodates 2 - 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath
Charming ground-floor accommodation with private loggia. Open plan living/dining/kitchen, bedroom with matrimonial bed, bathroom with shower.
Loggiato
Accommodates 4 — 2 Bedrooms
— 2 Baths
Upstairs accommodation with small living room, eat-in kitchen, one matrimonial and one twin bedroom, each bath (shower only). Immediate access to loggia for eating and sitting outside, plus there's another assigned space on the grounds.
Camino
Accommodates 2 — 1 Bedroom
— 1 Bath
Upstairs flat with large open-plan living/kitchen/dining, big double bedroom, bath with shower. Immediate access to loggia. This and Portico are perhaps the best 2-person accommodations we have seen in the Tuscan countryside in this price range.
Cipressi
Accommodates 4 — 2 Bedrooms
— 2 Baths
Ideal for two couples, with a wonderful private verandah all to itself for sitting and eating outside. The living room isn't large, but it's comfortable, plus a large kitchen, two equal bedrooms, and two baths (shower only).
Belvedere
Accommodates 6 — 3 Bedrooms
— 2 Baths
Upstairs from Cipressi, Belvedere can be combined with it for groups wanting one large space for more persons. Large open-plan living/kitchen/dining, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths with shower. Private outdoor area assigned.
Lecci
Accommodates 6 — 3 Bedrooms
— 2 Baths
Lecci is the upstairs accommodation of a free-standing cottage separate from the other structures on the estate. Lecci has independent exterior access, a beautiful private terrace, plus living room, kitchen, two matrimonial bedrooms, one twin bedroom, and two baths with shower.
Olivi
Accommodates 6 - 3 Bedrooms - 2 Baths
Located in the same structure as Lecci above, it has basically the same floor plan: living/dining, three bedrooms, two baths with shower, and its own private covered patio overlooking the vineyards, swimming pool, and countryside. For a larger group, you could easily unite Lecci and Olivi to create a fully private house with 6BR, 4BA.
Fattore
Accommodates 8 - 4 Bedrooms - 3 Baths
Years ago we offered the Fattore, which as its name in Italian suggests, is the former habitation of the estate manager. Then, about 10 years ago, one of the young owners of Iesolana went to Fattore to live himself. So it's been off the market for about a decade. Now it's back, newly redone, with 4 bedrooms, 3 baths (2 showers, 1 shower/tub combo), big living/dining, and private outdoor gazebo.
Tinaia
Accommodates 8 — 4 Bedrooms
— 3 Baths
Tinaia is the largest accommodation at Iesolana, with living/dining kitchen, plus 4 bedrooms, 3 baths (2 showers, 2 shower/tub combo), ideal for a party of up to 8 adults. Tinaia is much more than an “apartment”. Having direct access to the outside, and complete privacy, it is essentially a fully free-standing house. You would hardly know there are other guests at Iesolana staying here; it is that private. Immediate access to the outside, with private terrace and lawn area. Highly recommended.
