Santa Lucia - Rome
print
this page
Accommodates 2 - 1 Bedroom - 1
Bath - Terrace
The pluses: Exquisite furnishings,
light, quiet, terrace, supremely well-equipped, in one of
Rome's most prestigious locations: Via Giulia, steps from
Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori, Pantheon, and Piazza Farnese.
What more could you want? In
two words: an elevator, which our Santa Lucia flat lacks,
requiring guests to ascend 68 steps. Not terribly difficult
steps but 68 steps nonetheless. You either get over it or
take another flat.
Once you've made it up the stairs
and catch your breath, you'll find an entry hall leading into
a good-sized living room with sofa, loveseat, stereo/CD player,
and satellite TV with DVD. The room is topped all round by
a delightful frescoed frieze; good artwork and prints; and
a decorative fireplace surrounded by charming painted tiles,
everything characterized by an equestrian theme. There's a
separate dining room with its own decorative fireplace surrounded
by pretty majolica tiles. The kitchen is small but fully equipped
with gas stovetop, conventional oven, microwave, dishwasher,
and washing machine. The bedroom contains an indivisible matrimonial
bed of excellent quality and leads to a balcony and en-suite
bathroom with shower over tub. The Santa Lucia flat is fully
air-conditioned, and there is a telephone to which you can
also connect a computer on a dial-up basis.
Up a somewhat awkward antique
spiral wrought iron staircase, you come to Santa Lucia's terrace,
currently in not-so-great shape, but enjoying a wonderful
view encompassing everything from the cupola of the nearby
church of Santa Lucia del Gonfalone, to the dome of St. Peter's
in the distance, and the Gianicolo beyond. This level will
soon be utterly transformed into a second spacious bedroom
with en-suite bath and completely renewed terrace with elegant
furniture and furnishings. This will make the flat ideal for
two couples traveling together. For now, the upper level is
composed of a roomy but just-OK terrace; soon the whole thing
will be much more (as will the price). Neighborhood? You simply
can't beat it for elegance, prestige, character, fine dining,
family trattorias, nightlife, antiques, fine linens, public
transport, sightseeing, plus practical matters like banks,
post office, coffee bars - in fact, everything you could possibly
want in a Roman holiday.
