Popolo - RomeAccommodates 2 — 1+ Bedroom, 1 Bath Our Popolo offering is a luxury flat furnished by its owner for her own use. It’s a first-class jewel meant for a couple looking for something special in the way of accommodations in the center of Rome. The location? Right on Via del Corso, a few steps off Piazza del Popolo, just a short walk to the Spanish Steps. It’s very close to the 5-star Hotel de Russie and close as well to the Ristorante dal Bolognese, one of our favorites. Via del Corso is one of Rome’s major shopping streets, pedestrianized at this end, so virtually no traffic noise. You can walk from here to many of Rome’s most important sights, including Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and Trevi Fountain. The beautiful Villa Borghese is just a short uphill walk (or jog) as well. For longer distances, cabs are at hand in Piazza del Popolo, as well as the subway and buses, including the little electric bus. Furnishings in the Popolo flat are really quite elegant, with good antiques and art throughout, as well as excellent lighting. It is on the American third floor, with an elevator. Beautifully furnished living room; separate dining room seating 6 comfortably; a second, smaller living/dressing room for an occasional guest (or snoring spouse); bedroom with indivisible matrimonial bed; bath with shower over tub; and a kitchen with excellent equipment: dishwasher; washing machine; big fridge/freezer; electric stove/oven; microwave. Air-conditioned throughout. Telephone, FAX, DSL internet connection, CD player, TV (Italian channels only) in three of the rooms. The bedroom faces Via del Corso, and while there is no traffic noise, there is quite a bit of pedestrian noise from which the double-glazed windows and the A/C offer almost complete insulation. Housekeeping is included once during the week on a one-week booking; for longer rentals, housekeeping is midweek and at the end of each week. Perhaps the loveliest feature of the Popolo flat is the charming courtyard terrace off the dining and dressing rooms, trellised for maximum privacy and cozily furnished for eating alfresco in a truly romantic setting. A spectacular offering for a couple at a high price which is, however, significantly less than what you’d spend at one of the nearby 4- or 5-star hotels.
