    Tasso - Naples

    Accommodates 4 — 2+ Bedrooms — 2 Baths

Naples is built on three levels: (a) sea level, (b) up on a bluff, and (c) on several ridges between sea level and the plateau above. Via Tasso is an elegant boulevard lined with upscale low-rise apartment buildings, many dating from the turn of the century. Our flat lies in a building prominently set on an outcropping of the ridge.

After satisfying the doorman that you are respectable, you take an elevator up to the 5th floor. As you enter the flat, you immediately notice two things: first, the relative quiet, and second, the utterly splendid views encompassing Vesuvius, the sea, Capri, and the entire city of Naples spread beneath.

Full of light, the apartment contains a comfortable living and separate dining room, plus one large matrimonial bedroom, one fine but smaller twin bedroom, kitchen, and 2 full baths. (Another single bedroom is normally kept locked, where the owner stores her personal belongings; this bedroom may be made available at extra cost, possibly for a 5th person or if two of you prefer not to share a bedroom.) Water pressure isn't the greatest, especially at 8 or 9 am when the whole building is taking a bath or shower, but guests have uniformly assured us that this is a relatively minor matter.

Perhaps Tasso's best feature is a panoramic terrace eminently suitable for alfresco wining, dining, and lounging. This flat is its owner's principal residence most of the time. She is interested in renting only a few times a year, for no more than two weeks at a time. She wants to limit numbers of guests to 4, with no small children. In our opinion, the apartment is ideal for two couples or for a small group of friends.

The owner of the Tasso flat has proved to be a total gem. For a reasonable fee, she'll conduct tours of both Naples itself and the environs. Guests report that she is a wonderful human being who enhanced their stay immeasurably.

Think about it. We consider Via Tasso to be one of our most exciting new listings.
