Miralago - Lake Maggiore

this page
Accommodates 4+2 - 3 Bedrooms -
3 Baths - Swimming Pool
We just loved Miralago when
we visited. It's a small modern house in a residential area
enjoying, as its name suggests, panoramic views over Lake
Maggiore, just 4km from the world-famous resort of Stresa.
You can tell immediately that it's not a "rental". Indeed,
it was furnished for its owner to live in, and it has very
much the feel of a lived-in house. Walls are brightly colored;
woodwork is of high quality; and fine linen and upholstery
are in evidence.
Miralago is a fully freestanding
house surrounded by gardens and terraces taking full advantage
of the view. Inside are a spacious, airy living room with
comfortable seating, fireplace, and French doors opening up
onto the panoramic terrace. On the same level are a separate
dining room seating 8 comfortably, and a small but fully equipped
kitchen with microwave and small electric oven.
Upstairs, you've got a beautiful
master bedroom with matrimonial bed, en-suite bathroom, access
to the terrace, and open views over the lake. In addition,
there are two single bedrooms, each with its own bathroom.
One of the single bedrooms contains in fact a double sofabed,
which, when opened up, takes up essentially the entire room
- to give you an idea of the size. The other contains a single
plus a trundle bed.
TV, phone for local and incoming
calls, dishwasher, washing machine. You can walk into town
from here; it's a bit of a hike but doable.
Can Miralago sleep two couples?
A French agent told me that she put three couples into Miralago!
But the reality is that Miralago is for one couple - in the
master bedroom - plus a couple of well-behaved children or
two adults sleeping in the two singles. The single bedrooms
are so much smaller than the master that a party of two couples
is not right in our opinion.
Again, Stresa is just 4km distant.
From there, you can take the classic and unmissable boat excursion
out to the Borromean Islands and Villa Taranto. You can and
should explore the lake all the way up into Switzerland (don't
forget your passport!). Lake Orta, our personal favorite of
all the Italian lakes, is just a short drive away. A daytrip
to Milan is especially easy, as the train station is practically
walking distance and you'll be in the city in 60-90 minutes.
Shops and restaurants are right in town, as well as the "beach"
and a sports center with Olympic pool and three tennis courts.
We love Miralago, and we think
you will as well.
